Welsh Terrier

Welsh Terrier

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN England.

MOST SUITED AS Hunting dog and family pet.

SIZE
Weight is about 9kg (201b) and the shoulder-height should not exceed 39cm 151/2in).

COAT
The coat is wire-haired, hard and very thick. hey are usually red-brown with black.

CARE REQUIRED
The Welsh Terrier will need to have its coat lucked two or three times a year or even more often - depending upon the condition of the coat. It also requires grooming with brush and omb a number of times each week. Those dogs that are to be shown will require even greater levels of attention. The longer hairs at the feet, on the belly, and particularly around the face, give the Welsh Terrier its typical appearance.

CHARACTER
The Welsh Terrier is a vigilant, active, cheerful and uncomplicated dog, which is affectionate, intelligent, can be dominant towards other dogs, is brave, and obedient. It bonds very closely with its handler and family although reserved with strangers.

TRAINING
The Welsh Terrier is bright enough to understand quickly what you want of it but is also cunning enough to try to divert you from your intentions. Give them constant variety in their training and remain consistent towards them.

SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
The Welsh Terrier can be rather reserved with people it does not know. Generally it is patient with children - and can withstand a bit of rough play. Make sure it becomes confident with cats and other animals of the house when young. This will prevent the dog from chasing them when it grows up.

EXERCISE
The Welsh Terrier is untiring; it is always ready to play with a ball and to run and gambol off the lead in the open countryside, which it loves to do.Yet if you occasionally find it impossible one time to give the dog this pleasure, it will accept matters without fuss.
