COUNTRY OF ORIGIN Japan.
MOST SUITED AS Family pet.
SIZE
The shoulder-height is 30cm (11 1/2in) for dogs and slightly less for bitches.
COAT
The long-haired coat, which has a thick under-layer, is always white.
CARE REQUIRED
Do not groom the Japanese Spitz with brush and comb too often to avoid damaging the undercoat. During moulting use a comb with a double row of metal teeth to remove loose hairs from the under-layer.
CHARACTER
This is a high-spirited, intelligent and playful dog which is vigilant and obedient.
TRAINING
The Japanese Spitz is not difficult to train although it is important for the handler always to be consistent. They learn quickly and derive much pleasure from spots such as agility skills trials and fly-ball.
SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
In general this dog is good with children. The majority of them tend to be rather reserved.
EXERCISE
To keep the dog healthy in body and soul, take it for three walks every day and also let it regularly run and play off the lead.
