COUNTRY OF ORIGIN England.
MOST SUITED AS Pointer for game birds and family pet.
SIZE
The shoulder-height is 63 - 69cm (24 1/2 - 27in) for dogs and 61 - 66cm (24 - 26in) for bitches.
COAT
The topcoat is short-haired while the undercoat is short and smooth. Pointers can have the following colour combinations: white and yellow, white and liver, and white and black. Three-coloured varieties are also permissible.
CARE REQUIRED
The grooming of this breed is simple. All that is required is to use a rubber brush during its moulting to remove dead and loose hairs.
CHARACTER
These are friendly, lovable, affectionate, and equable dogs which are intelligent, and obedient, that make first class game pointers. (The dog stands absolutely still pointing towards wild game birds as it catches their scent on the wind.)
TRAINING
The English Pointer is a reasonably quick learner because the dog is intelligent enough to understand what you intend.
SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
English Pointers get on well with their own kind and with other household animals. They are also generally loving and patient with children and they are friendly towards both known and unknown people.
They will get along fine with cats and other household animals if they have been introduced to them when young.
EXERCISE
Because English Pointers are primarily field sports dogs, most owners are people who are involved in these activities. They need lots of exercise so consider letting them work at field sports. If this is not possible, then it is essential that the dog gets at least half an hour every day to run about.
